Common Reads on Yavapai College Campus

Image
For the past four years, Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ continues to encourage a campus wide community with their Common Reads.  Each year since the program started, a book is chosen, YC purchases copies of it to give away, some instructors include it as part of their curriculum, and the whole campus-faculty, staff, and students-are encouraged to read the book. Fostering the sense of community and belonging across campus, individuals at YC can ask each other, "Are you reading the book, the common read?", and soon a dialogue can develop with a common starting point. The program started in 2019, with the first book being T he Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot .  The program has been going strong with more people participating every year. In 2020, the common read was  There, There by Tommy Orange The common read for 2021 was Educated by Tara Westover And this year's common read is House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
