Force copy a Goggle Doc...

Google Docs is an amazing tool for collaboration.  The ability to share documents through the cloud proves ueful time and time again.  However, as with most technology there is a learning curve and mistakes and misunderstandings are to had.  Writing out explicit instructions, making how to videos, or pointing users to Synergyse is helpful.  Learning shortcuts to help teachers and students is even more so.  One great short cut is using a FORCE COPY feature of Google Apps for Education.

The idea is simple.  Create a link that forces every person who visits the link to create a copy.  This can be done with any of the GAFE suite.  Here is how it works:

  1. copy the link from the Create Sharable Link...
  2. remove the part that says edit?usp=sharing and change it to copy
  3. Send the newly created link in an email or post it to Google Classroom.

By following these steps, you will force the receiver of the link to make a
copy.  This saves a step or two in directions...
